Blas na hÉireann 2020 Winners

Blas na hÉireann 2020 Winners

More than 250 products from around the country were awarded 2020 Blas na hÉireann titles this past weekend. Among the winners are no less than 35 of our wonderful producers. But we are especially proud to say it was Waterford’s Irish Gourmet Butter which picked up the Best Artisan Product award.

Produced by Billy and Mary Sharpe in Dunhill and inspired by Mary's grandmother, who was and All-Ireland Butter Making Champion in the 1936 and 1937 as well as a lecturer in Dairy Science in Maynooth University. The duo has form when it comes to Blas na hÉireann, having won silver in the flavoured butter category in 2017 for their garlic and herb butter and also finalists in 2018.

Many of us have occasions when we decide to cut down, or take a break from alcohol. This can be for health reasons, having early deadlines to meet, or that we are the designated driver. Much of our socialising has traditionally been constructed around social drinking, and while water and soft drinks are an alternative, some of us just like the taste of alcohol when out.
The practical definition of alcohol-free used by most countries is under 0.5% alcohol by volume (ABV). The good news is how much easier it is to go alcohol-free, compared even a few years ago. The move to alcohol-free, or low in alcohol drinks for some of our choices, is being firmly embraced and in fact, it is largely consumer driven. As a result, the quality and selection available now has made the choice easier and more appealing.
