This take on a historic, belgian style witbier. Brewed with 50% Wheat, Irish barley and oats, and traditional belgian spices
History & Style:
A 400-year-old Belgian beer style that evolved as the specialty of Dutch-speaking Flemish Brabant Province east of Brussels. Allegedly the Dutch brought spices from far and wide into the Witbier equation. The style had all but disapearred by the 1950’s until a labour of love by Pierre Celis at Hoegaarden brought this refreshing botanical beer back into vogue.
Very pale, almost white in appearance from the oats. Fruity, with noticable spices of orange peel and fresh coriander. Crisp mouthfeel with a dry, refreshing finish.
Wit is the beer equivilant of a crisp white wine. Perfect with fish. Try a nice spicy fishcake, calamari or sushi. Light fresh cheeses such as young goats cheese or a fluffy feta.
