Producer Craig Hawkins is one of the leading lights in South African viticulture and his Testalonga (meaning outlaw) Baby Bandito ranges is attracting much interest. Farmed organically with natural yeast fermentation, this 100% Cinsault from 40 years old Swartland bush vines is a crunchy, herbal, light but delicately earthy wine. A light filtration was carried out but no fining and bottled with the minimum of sulphur dioxide. The striking black-and-white photograph on the labels of the Baby Bandito series is of a street child in Vietnam and taken by his brother Mark. Innovative, high quality, terroir and varietally driven, Testalonga is gaining a cult-like following.
