Owned and run by English husband and wife team of Jon and Elizabeth Bowen, Domaine Sainte Croix is hidden in the rugged limestone hills of the High Corbières in the village of Fraissé des Corbières, 20 minutes inland from the Mediterranean. Committed to discovering and developing the potential of indigenous varieties, this is an old vine Carignan Noir (40%), Syrah (27%), Grenache Noir (23%), Mourvèdre (10%) blend.
Using wild yeasts and post-fermentation skin contact for 15-20 days, there is minimal pumping to keep the fruit quality as intact as possible. 100% matured sur lie in tank for 18 months brings bright purple and cherry red. Rich aromas of blackcurrant fruits and dark leaves, damson, loganberry and redcurrant. A medium-bodied wine with good depth of flavour, fresh acidity, a flinty minerality and soft tannins with a long, aromatic finish. Ideal with richer poultry, roast pork and roast vegetables. For cheese an aged Gouda, Parmesan, or a young Manchego.
