Food Hero Story

Helen Finnegan started producing cheese on the family’s farm at Stoneyford, Co Kilkenny in 2004 using local farmer Hugh Daniels’ goat's milk. What started out as a kitchen table enterprise expanded quickly with the completion of their purpose built cheese plant in 2006. The goat's cheeses are made from March to November to coincide with supply but ever the entrepreneur Helen has progressed to making sheep milk cheese using Henry Clifton Browne’s pedigree Frieslands. This cheese is Knockdrinna Meadow. When Olivia Goodwillie decided to retire in 2007 Helen took the opportunity to buy the Lavistown Cheese name, and started making cow’s milk cheese too! Helen is now something of an icon in Irish cheese making and Knockdrinna has over 40 International and Irish awards.
