Mary Berry discovers Ireland’s Traditional Barm Brack

Originally established in 1900, Hickeys is a fourth-generation family bakery based in Clonmel Co. Tipperary and now run by the powerhouse that is Nuala Hickey. We have had many an enjoyable tasting day instore with Nuala, she is a natural at engaging customers especially when the discussion is about good food…no wonder Mary Berry enjoyed her time at the bakery when she visited for her new BCC series Home Comforts.
It’s all about that Award Winning Barm Brack, not just good, this amazing…especially cut thick and slathered in real Irish butter, accompanied by a cup of tea and more so if you manage to find that elusive gold coin like Mary did!!
Hickey’s Barm Brack is a traditional, handmade, yeast-risen fruit loaf. In Irish, it is known as báirín breac – ‘speckled loaf’ – because of the way the rich, sweet dough is laden with juicy sultanas and cherries.
Your good fortune is you can find out for yourself what queen of home cooking and #GBBO loved so much! #WeDeliver
