Bread, in all its beauty

Ardkeen Quality Food Store Classic Sourdough Bread
Ardkeen Quality Food Store Classic Sourdough Bread

Whether baked at home or bought in one of the many great bakeries around Ireland, no one can deny the pleasure of good bread. Recent years has seen nothing short of a revolution in the quality and availability of bread baked in its purest form, much thanks to the Real Bread campaign and community, of which Ardkeen Quality Food Store is a member. Using only a handful of natural ingredients, often in small batches and without the aid of artificial additives, you can now find stunning quality bread on sale in practically every county.

Good bread requires dedicated bakers, rising in the early hours of the morning is not for the fainthearted and sourcing the best possible ingredients to work with, all requires passion and commitment. Many bakers will also wish travel ‘to bake with the best’, gaining a wealth of the practical knowledge that only a hands on experience will bring.

Our Thursday Tasting this week is an opportunity to taste some of our favourite breads from new baker, Tramore native, Fergal Walsh. Having worked with The Firehouse Bakery in Wicklow and Seagull Bakery in Tramore, Fergal has also travelled widely and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience with him.

We will taste Fergal’s Classic Sourdough and his stunning Rosemary and Sea Salt Focaccia, the flavour and texture of both making them the perfect go to breads for weekday convenience or weekend experience.

Join Fergal & I from 12.30.

    Whitfield Raw Honey 360g

    Raw Irish Honey.

Whitfield Honey is the continuation of a family beekeeping tradition. Owner Conor spent years studying and learning the art and the craft of managing bees from his grandfather. Conor then ventured to Australia to understand how a fulltime beekeeping operation would work before returning home to continue the family tradition.

Whitfield Honey is produced from the wildflowers of Butlerstown and its surrounding areas. The local flowers provide Whitfield Honey with its unique floral taste and distinct fruity undertones. In addition to its wonderful taste, Whitfield Honey has many positive health benefits which it makes it a must for everyone’s shopping basket!
