An afternoon of Wine, Chat and Festive Cheer at Ardkeen Quality Food Store
With Christmas just around the corner, we are very pleased to tell, that we are holding a Festive Wine Tasting instore on Saturday next 15th December from 12 noon.
A long association with Ardkeen Quality Food Store, Mary Gaynor, Wine MBA will be joining us from Thomastown where she runs Wine Academy Ireland, the longest running wine school in Ireland. Holder of Irelands 1st Wine and Spirits Education Trust Diploma and indeed the 1st woman in Europe to be conferred with a Wine MBA from The Bordeaux Business School, Mary is a wealth of knowledge on all things wine and offers you the perfect occasion to get professional wine recommendations for all your Christmas dining and entertaining.
We will taste from a selection of wines to suit every Christmas occasion, with some familiar classics that should grace every Christmas table and other new and exciting wines that we have just recently introduced to our already extensive range of wines here at Ardkeen Quality Food Store.
On the tasting table, expect charm and elegance for any celebrations with bubbles from one of Spain’s favourites Cava’s, Villa Conchi. Add zest and finesse to your entree with Domaine Gaujal’s excellent Picpou from the Languadoc. Taste the charm and delicacy of Burgundy with classics Beaujolais, Flurie and Macon Village and experience Verona’s Moorish past with decadent Ripasso and Amarone.
There will of course be festive food treats required and our new baker Fergal will be providing savoury delights and Sheridan’s Cheesemongers, a wonderful array of Irish cheeses to accompany your wines on the day.
So really looking forward to welcoming you, all our dear customers in on Saturday for Wine, Chat and lots of Festive Cheer!
See you from 12
PS. Did I mention, there will be Sherry. We LOVE Sherry at AQFS. ;-)

Zenato Ripassa Superior Valpolicella 2016 75cl
After the dried grapes are pressed, the Valpolicella wine is passed over the still warm marc of Amarone. A second alcoholic fermentation begins which increases the alcoholic content and the wine becomes richer in colour, bouquet
The grapes are de-stemmed and macerated in stainless steel fermenters for 10-12 days. Once the alcoholic fermentation is completed, the new wine is separated from the skins by light pressing and conserved in large oak casks of 54 and 75 hectolitres until February; this is the period in which the dried grapes are pressed to produce Amarone. At this point, the Valpolicella is passed over the marc of the Amarone for a period of 7-8 days at a temperature of 25-28°C. The wine is aged for 18 months in 500 lt. oak casks and barrels.
Excellent companion to game dishes, grilled meat and roasts, salami and aged cheeses.
