You would be forgiven on Sunday for thinking you had been magically transported to a market town in Southern France, as the sun shone & the crowds decended on John Roberts Square for the Harvest Festival All Ireland Farmers Market. Ardkeen Quality Food Store were in attendance in no small manner, with a 50ft marquee which hosted many of our wonderful food producers.  A great day was had by all those involved, as the festival atmosphere took over aided by the sights & smells of really good food. We hope you enjoyed meeting our wonderful food producers in person. See you there next year!

Feast of Fish at Goatsbridge

Recently we had great pleasure in visiting with Mag & Ger Kirwan at the Goatsbridge Trout Farm Open Day, where we were incredibly well fed in both mind and body! Greeting us on arrival was a fabulous showcase of trout delicacies, hot smoked pan fried, poached or baked, all delicious and all consumed with gusto.  Afterward, Ger led guided tours of the hatcheries & the trout pools, providing an indepth look into the ethos & processes behind the farm.

The Island Run - the movie!


Jason Vale – a.k.a. The Juice Master

was in Waterford recently to launch his renowned 7 Day Juice Programme and to get people ‘juiced’ about juice! Six lucky applicants were given the opportunity to participate in the’ 7 Day Juice Programme’ for free!

The free trial proved a great success for all those who took part, Ronan Burke said he was “really glad (he) took part in the juice plan, it was a lot easier than expected”, “I didn't do it solely as a weight loss plan but it was an added bonus that I lost ten pounds!”  The 7 Day Super Juice Programme is based on Jason’s best-selling book “7 lbs in 7 Days”.  However, it is not only ideal for weight loss and the participants had a variety of reasons for wanting to trial the programme from helping skin conditions and hoping to receive an energy boost. The 5k Race & Fun Run was part of Waterford Castle’s Open Day and was organised by Seamus Doyle of Balance Fitness.

The car free course is beautifully picturesque and this is the first opportunity to race. Starting at the 800year old Waterford Castle and seeing the best of The Island Haven.

Cherry (Tomato) Picking the Best!
The first of the season local tomatoes arrive in Ardkeen Quality Food Store this week – a sure sign that summer is on its way! Grantstown Nurseries have been suppliers of tomatoes and other fruits and vegetables to Ardkeen Quality Food Store for almost 30 years. Some varieties are grown exclusively for Ardkeen, this year they include the Suntini Sweet – a Mini Plum variety & Yellow Pearl, a yellow cherry tomato, perfect for summer salads or a lunch box snack. Grantstown Nurseries continuous focus is on quality and innovation, which provides a perfect match for the Ardkeen Quality Food Store ethos.

FOOD LOVERS across the region were encouraged to go back to their roots and re-discover the wonder and delight of growing and preparing the very best of foods at the Grow, Cook, Eat evening in Waterford’s Tower Hotel.
The cookery demonstration and gardening workshop event was hosted by Waterford Stanley. A total of €3000 was donated to the South East Cancer Foundations’ campaign to raise €1 million for their new SOLAS Centre in the city.
